Atlas notes

Seiko’s modern re-issue of its 1965 first diver, sized for today at 40.5mm. The 6R35’s 70-hour reserve and a 200m Diver’s rating put the spec sheet ahead of most Swiss rivals at the price — the bracelet clasp remains its one honest compromise.

The SPB143 is the watch that settled a long argument about what a Seiko diver should cost. It is not the cheapest way into a 200m automatic, and the Atlas says so plainly elsewhere on this page: the Citizen NY0086 does the same job for a third of the money. What the Seiko buys you over that is finishing — the cut of the case flanks, the Zaratsu-style polish on the lugs, the applied indices — plus a movement with more than twice the running time off the wrist.

The compromise is the clasp. There is no micro-adjust, which on a 200m diver meant for actual water is the one specification a buyer at this price is entitled to expect. It does not change the verdict; it belongs in it.
