The original square, brought up to date. The U revision keeps the 1983 DW-5000C silhouette and adds the two features that make a cheap watch a lifetime watch: a solar cell under the display, and a radio receiver that sets the time from an atomic clock signal on six bands.
Nothing else in the Atlas scores 25 for value, and the reason is arithmetic rather than affection. There is no battery to replace, no service interval, no accuracy to regulate, and a 200m rating on a case that has survived four decades of people trying to break it. Against watches at ten times the price it gives up finishing and gives up nothing else.
The wearability sub-score is where it pays. Resin, digital, and unmistakably a G-Shock: it goes with about half of what most people own, and no amount of engineering changes that.
